The Samsung NC10 has made a name for itself as one of the best netbooks currently available. It’s large 10 inch display and excellent operating speed have made it a favourite of many review sites and its stunning looks and great price make it appealing to consumers.
When you compare the technical specifications and feature set of the NC10 to earlier netbooks like the ones seen from ASUS, you can really see a huge difference in quality.
Recently however the NC10 has been the subject of a price war between O2, Vodafone and three, all of whom are offering various deals for the netbook. Buying mobile broadband combined with a free laptop is a great way to experience true mobile connectivity, but remember that such deals normally involve quite lengthy contracts.
O2 cut the price of its monthly NC-10 deal this week to £29.38 per month (24 month contract) for the 3GB monthly usage limit. A similar deal with a much more generous 10GB allowance has also dropped to £39.50. Both packages also offer unlimited Wi-Fi access to the 7,500 O2 hotspots around the UK.
These cuts have been O2s response to an offer from 3 last week that was priced at £30 per month (18 month contract) with a 5GB usage plan and free dongle. Despite cutting prices though, the O2 deal is still not as good, offering 2GB less bandwidth for the same price despite on a much lengthier contract.
Vodafone could soon be following suit, although currently it offers the NC10 for £25 with only 1GB usage per month (24 month contract) which is the weakest of all the deals. However, Vodaphone offer a model of the NC10 which comes embedded with a SIM so you don’t need to use a dongle. It also offers a faster connection speed – 7.2 Mbps compared to the 3.6 Mbps offered by other providers.
As you can see, there’s a lot of buzz surrounding the NC10 and quite a few deals available. The offer from 3 remains the best so far, although we can see how the Vodafone embedded system might appeal to people who need the extra portability and speed it brings.
We hope this stiff competition continues across new ranges of netbooks as the consumer can clearly benefit from reduced price deals. Such a price war does place an added emphasis on the need to compare mobile broadband products and free laptop deals before purchasing.
